Beginner Progression Series

April 1 - April 15

Check back Winter 2025 for April 2025 dates!

Are you fairly new to mountain biking and not sure where to start? Start with us!  Over the course of 3 weeks Sweet Skills coaches will teach you the fundamentals to get you going for an awesome summer of riding. You’ll learn a ton from our patient and fun female coaches as they talk you through everything you need to know about your bike, your set-up and of course how to ride it!

The first 2 sessions will focus on practicing foundational bike skills in an open area.  This will set you up with great bike habits from the get go!  The coaches will work with you on a stable body position for different terrain, teach you to use your gears and brakes, how to negotiate corners and bumps on the trail, and most of all how to relax and have fun!  After dialing in these skills, we will take what we learned to the trails!  Fresh off all that practice and with your own supportive cheering squad you will be tackling the terrain with a new set of confidence!

Meet new riding buddies to ride with in between our sessions, discover new trails that are at your ability level, and watch your stoke level and skills soar!

This clinic is aimed at Beginner riders who are comfortable riding level pedals on crushed gravel trails, can execute basic corners and are ready to learn how to ride some of the easier Pemberton trails like Piece of Cake at One Mile Lake. After 2 sessions in Pemberton the 3rd will take place in the Lost Lake trails.

*If you are brand new to biking and not yet comfortable with standing on level pedals on your bike then the Super Beginner Clinic is the one for you or start with a private lesson.

  • More Details

    MEET UP LOCATION:

Meet up spot and reminder details on what to bring will be sent out at least 1 week in advance by email.

    GEAR NEEDED:

Bike: All-mountain or XC bike in good working order.  Ebikes are allowed at this clinic, however if you have both please ride your regular Mnt bike.  If riding an Ebike make note of it during your registration.  Protective Gear/Attire: The following is mandatory for this clinic; helmet, knee pads, and full finger gloves.  Elbow pads, and other protective gear not listed above are optional.  We highly recommend dressing in appropriate bike clothes for the weather that day, and packing/wearing extra layers just in case – we ride rain or shine! Participants must also also have a multi-tool to repair anything on their bike as well as tube, tire levers and pump.

    SNACKS & WATER

Please bring snacks and enough water to sustain you through this 3 hour session.

    GROUPS:

Participants will be grouped together by their ability level in cases where we are more than 1 coach.  The questionnaire that you fill out during registration will guide us on where to place you. Please sign up for the appropriate clinic for your ability and don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We do our best to match similar levels together, but given the nature of the sport there will always be some differences in ability and fitness levels within every group.  These differences can offer a great opportunity to peer learn – the most advanced rider can always benefit from ‘slowing down and getting back to basics’ and a less experienced rider can progress from riding with more advanced riders in a supportive environment.

    WAIVERS:

Each guest will be required to sign a Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement at time of registration, prior to start of trip. Click here to view and fill in the online waiver at time of booking.  Participants are required to inform Sweet Skills of any allergies, medical conditions or injuries that might affect their riding or health and any medications taken.

    AGE:

Minimum required age is 18 for our camps and clinics. Requests can be made on a case-by-case basis. It’s recommended for youth between the ages of 14 and 18 to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
